Great Plains Conservation’s luxury safari lodge Mpala Jena has announced the launch of its exclusive Mpala Jena Private Villas, set just five kilometres from the main lodge, along the banks of the iconic Zambezi River.
Designed by owners Kevin and Shannon Lang, alongside architect Julia Rutherford and interior designer Tracy Kelly, these villas promise to redefine luxury safaris, offering guests a secluded yet opulent experience.
Inspired by the unique Trullo architecture of Alberobello in Italy’s Puglia region, the villas blend local materials with striking design elements, including conical thatched roofs, natural stone, and graceful arches. This architectural style, reminiscent of the “beautiful tree” origins of Alberobello, is reflected in the villas’ tranquil setting beneath the majestic trees that line the Zambezi’s shores. The result is an exquisite mix of cool, airy interiors for summer and a cosy atmosphere for winter stays.
Each of the three-bedroom villas will include spacious living areas, a private swimming pool, and riverfront suites, all enhanced by personalised butler and guide services. Guests can expect a truly immersive, slow-paced safari, with activities tailored to their preferences. A dedicated safari vehicle and motorised boat come standard with each villa, offering the chance to explore both land and river at no extra cost.
Highlight activities include sunset and sunrise cruises aboard a historic dhow, originally hailing from Zanzibar, as well as customised wildlife experiences in the Zambezi National Park. A half-day tour of the nearby Victoria Falls is complimentary for guests staying at least two nights, along with return airport transfers.
The villas’ prime location on the Zambezi ensures unparalleled wildlife sightings, both from the comfort of private river pavilions or while cruising along the river.
